Master the Art of Flying Straight

Sunday, March 2nd, 2014

The butterfly, a cabbage-white,
(His honest idiocy of flight)
Will never now, it is too late,
Master the art of flying straight,
Yet has- who knows so well as I?-
A just sense of how not to fly:
He lurches here and here by guess
And God and hope and hopelessness.
Even the acrobatic swift
Has not his flying-crooked gift.

ItTheLittleThings

  I don’t remember the capital of every state or country. You won’t find me quoting character lines from movies that I’ve memorized. And although I usually get the lyrics right to most songs on the radio, I sometimes have to look them up first 😉 But I read this poem back in high school and it stuck. It is the only poem I have learned by heart. At the time it just made sense to me. Last night this popped into my head again as a way to remind myself that the path isn’t always straight. It that’s what make each of us unique.

Bumblebees on the Brain { Surfside, SC }

Saturday, March 12th, 2011

It was a most beautiful day when I woke this morning! The birds were chirping. The sky was clear. The ocean was calm. So it was time to grab the macro lens and head out into the neighborhood for a walk that lasted over an hour and only about 14 blocks.  There were brilliant purple pansies, daffodils, forsythia, red berries & more.  And I cannot forget my latest obsession – bumble bees!! (It doesn’t help that my mom and I opened a new shop on Etsy with the name Bees and Buttercups)  Happy Spring Everyone!

At the end of the walk I caught this little guy up to no good …    I just love sun filled mornings!
