Inspiration From Home { Philadelphia, Pt One}

This is a city I once called my own. At 18 I moved from suburban/rural area to ‘the city’ to go to college. I knew the moment I walked into school before I was even accepted that is where I needed to be. I belonged here.

I still remember what it was like the first week I lived there. I moved into a one bedroom high-rise with a roommate I had only met once before.  Everything was new & so big. I felt nervous & excited. It was an adventure.  I learned Philly slang, how to maneuver public transportation, ride a bike with traffic, how to make friends in a school where I knew no one.

Flash forward six years later & I was over it.  The city was noisy, old. The people were obnoxious & rude. I lost my job. I left.

I have no regrets about leaving. Philadelphia was no longer home in my heart. I needed to expand. Breathe fresh air & be among trees.

This move turned out to be the beginning of a whole new plan for adventure – after a job at a camera store, I became an assistant wedding photographer, a full time photographer & then moved to San Diego. I became a different version of myself.

Well here I am standing in Philadelphia once again.  The weather today is beautiful & makes me feel nostalgic for the days when this was my home. I have much to see & much to catch up on while I am here. . .
