Walk for Hope

Thursday, June 10th, 2010

A few weeks ago, I decided to volunteer my services for the City of Hope’s annual event – Walk for Hope. This year’s event was held at the Point Loma Nazarene University. This is my second year volunteering and I am so glad that I did.  It’s such a healthy way to raise money for women’s cancer research.   To start off the event, Albertson’s Grocers was able to give a check for $27,000. And thanks to all the volunteers and participant- this event raised over $100,000 for the cause!

So many people are affected by what the City of Hope can do. So before the walk began – we took a few moments to remember those lost to cancer and to honor those who have survived and those still fighting.  This was not a sad event – by no means. There is such a great vibe in the air when so many people come out to service a good cause.  Check out some images from the event …

In case you don’t know what the City of Hope is, I will do my best to give you a summary. They are one of only 40 National Cancer Institute-designated Comprehensive Cancer Centers nationwide and a founding member of the National Comprehensive Cancer Network. City of Hope treats cancer patients and conducts research to find a cure. They are relentless in this quest and have been able to save thousands of lives in the process. To learn more information check out their website: City of Hope.

If you are interest in previewing more of this event, go to www.laurabscott.com . Enter site and select ‘featured galleries’ There are 3 different galleries for this event.  All profits from purchasing prints will be donated to the City of Hope.  This gallery will be available until July 15th 2010.

And yes! I did walk the entire 4K with my camera gear and all the other walkers up and down hills.  It’s a very uplifting event. And I encourage anyone that has a loved one who is fighting cancer , has lost a loved one to cancer or just loves to walk or run – join the Walk for Hope. The Reviews Are In ….

Thursday, February 25th, 2010

It’s always great to hear feedback from my clients – good or bad. I take criticism as a way to continue to improve my business & offer current and  future clients better service and products. I feel fortunate enough to receive very little negative criticism. And that tells me that I must be doing something right.  Recently I was surprised to hear from a client a year after her wedding. What she wrote only strengthens my love for what I do.  I am fortunate enough to be a part of some of the biggest and most important moments in people’s lives.  And I have the privilege of documenting these moments and creating images that continue to bring them back to those moments.  I know to some of you, you may be thinking – ‘yeah whatever. She can’t possibly believe this.’ And so I say read the emails I recently received below and if the cynic in you isn’t softened that not much will.

“Thank you. My wedding was on valentines day one year ago. Today I look at the wedding pictures and I started remembering how I felt that day, full of hope and so much in love. I want to thank you for your services your art is wonderfull and lovely. Excellent Job! thank you once again!

“Laura,

I know this is a bit long, you can edit how you’d like, but I just wanted to express to you how thankful we feel to have found such a brilliant and artistic photographer.

Choosing you as our wedding photographer was one of the easiest decisions we made during our planning.  You truly helped in making this a unforgettable day for us, from our engagement session down to the end of the reception, we were so impressed and feel like we made a sincere friend.  When we look through our pictures, it brings back all the laughs and emotions, as though it just happened yesterday.  The way you approach your photos with such a fashionistic and candid style is what caught our attention from the start and we still can’t believe some of the amazing photos you captured for us!  Being such a detailed person, I really appreciate every individual touch you paid attention to at the wedding, no matter how small or large the details, when you look through our pictures, it really gives you the feeling of what the day was like for us.  I especially like this because everyone says that no one pays attention to the small details but the bride! : )  To me, it felt great to look through the pictures and see how all the hard work that went into planning the wedding actually looked and came together on the day of.

With every compliment we receive from family and friends (and there are a lot!), it confirms our feelings for how unbelievably lucky we are to have had you photograph our engagement photos and wedding day.  We look forward to following your career and seeing your continued success in your industry.

Thank you for your dedication and thoughtfulness in helping us make this such a perfect day.”

Jason & Stephanie Schuchard, married October 9th 2009
