New Toys in the Mail! { Myrtle Beach Pet Photography }

It’s so much fun to receive a package in the mail! And even more fun when the box is filled with new toys! And when I say new toys, I am talking about new lighting gear! I was so excited to open every box & set up. But then I needed a model … hmmm … well no one knows how much fun it is to get a new toy better then my furry friend, Jackie . . .

And of course my girl, Kaysea was a little reluctant but willing to show her moody side.

And last but not least my ever ready-for-a-photo girl, Shayla.

Never know what kind of expression a model is willing to give you. But you just gotta love those furry faces

A Short Drive Away { Georgetown, SC }

Love Getting New Toys! { Canon MR-14 ex Ring Flash }

So last week I decided it was time to treat myself to a new photo toy. But what to buy? – what to buy? There are soo many I want err need! Yes I NEED a ring flash. It was time. Since I have been getting back into shooting more macro photography & with so many pieces coming in weekly from Bees & Buttercups Jewelry to shoot – it was time. I Need to buy a ring flash! Are you convinced? I sure am. And so I ordered it! Here are 2 shots taken. One by adjusting exposure, & using a white reflector card – which by the way is hard to hold while shooting macro by oneself. And another taken at a comfortable exposure handheld range but with the canon macro ring flash. Neither photo was altered other then a small amount of color correction & tiny tweak of exposure. Can you tell the difference? I dare you to guess!

Can’t wait to try it out photographing portraits! Now to decide want I want .. err … need to buy next!?

Addicted to Pinterest

Inspiration & art found on the internet is everywhere. I tried to keep track by having a million, somewhat organized, bookmarks saved to my computer. But who has time to remember where I put all that? Once a year I dig through & clear it out, just to keep my computer organized. Wasted time is what that is. If only there was a way to keep all my inspirations & favorite links in one place??

Then one day someone asked me ‘Do you pinterest?’ Do I what? And now I am addicted! For those you you who have never heard of it, let me see if I can describe. It’s like having a gigantic wall with bulletin boards all over it. Each board has a theme you create. Every time you find something on the internet that inspires, you can pin that link/photo to a board. These boards are shares & followed by your fellow pinners.

I love it – finally a place to keep all my inspirations & ideas with photos. So now I don’t have to spend 20 minutes looking for the link to that Lemon Blueberry cheesecake cookie I want to make this weekend or the dress I am drooling over at Anthropologie. It’s all there!

And I have to say I get a little thrill to see my own photos from the blog or etsy shop wandering around pinterest under someone’s inspiration or favorite photos board. To make it even easier, I’ve added a new button at the top of each post for pinning.

OK so pinterest may not be for everyone. But for those of us that are semi-disorganized artist types, a bride looking to find her color palette, collect her favorite dress, bouquet, or cake design or someone just trying to find a place for inspiration will instantly fall in love. But of course this is coming from someone with over 1000 pins & counting. Happy pinning!

Wild Dunes Resort Wedding {Isle of Palms, SC}

So to stick with my blogging resolution , it’s time to catch up on a few belated posts. I figured what better way to start then the lovely Isle of Palms wedding of Mai & Jonathan! What a gorgeous day for a wedding! And with a couple as sweet as Jonathan & Mai – I couldn’t ask for a better day! This was my first time photographing at the Wild Dunes Resort & so I was super excited & full of ideas . .

And to get the jitters out of the way & have a quiet moment before the ceremony, Mai & Jonathan spent a few sweet moments together.

Where Have You Been?

Once upon a time I was a regular blogger. I blogged faithfully every week & sometimes more then once. But in the past year, I’ve heard the question “Where have you been?!” more often then I should. So since it’s a new year (2012 btw for those of you still typing 2011 I thought it was time to catch everyone up on exactly where I’ve been, what I have been up to & definitely where I’m going! So this year I will blog every week. And if I don’t you have my permission to yell at me on my facebook page. And if the same person catches me two times in a row – then I will send you a present in the mail.

Ok so where have I been? Well as many of you know, I am no longer living in Southern California. I up and moved to Surfside Beach, Myrtle Beach. (which is in South Carolina). Why? Well some days I know the answer to that question & some days not. Let’s just say my wonderlust got the better of me (along with missing my east coast family). And for those of you who know me well, you know that when I make up my mind to do something – I do it. So here I am (for now) in South Carolina. Giving up my life in San Diego was harder then I thought. I miss the weather, the scenic cliff views but more so my friends (who became like family) and of course the wonderful clients I met. (I truly mean that). I had such a great time in San Diego & will be back (and have been as you will see in next week’s post!)

I will be honest though. In the year that I have been here in South Carolina, I haven’t exactly committed myself to being here. I haven’t explored the beautiful scenery, found any hidden pathways or secret beaches. I haven’t advertised my photography work (fine art or portraits), made too many friends or even gone for my SC driver’s license. But the year is new & it’s time to commit to life in the South. So I bought myself a pair of cowboy boots & off I go. Over the next few weeks I will catch up on overdue blog posts & my plans for adventure this year. So I hope you come back to visit the blog soon. And to all my clients, whether in the northeast, southern california or the deep south, I appreciate you choosing me to photograph the special moments in your lives & I hope you stay in touch! (and feel free to call for a session, I love to travel) Happy 2012 everyone!
