Happy Birthday Mom!

Thursday, August 21st, 2014

A beautiful afternoon here in NW Florida to celebrate my mom’s birthday. A drive down the coastal 30a for some lunch at a wine & cheese bar with a little window shopping . . .

Ta For Now Philly { Philadelphia Pt Seven }

Monday, August 11th, 2014

Yes part Seven because there is just too much to do, people to see and good food to eat while in Philadelphia for only a week.  So off to Breakfast at The Fitzwater Cafe with my family . . .

Followed by a little walk to the pop-up beer garden. Yes I said POP UP BEER garden – now why didn’t they have these when I lived here??

And then walk through the city to the mexican restaurant, La Calaca Feliz, in the art museum area for some fish tacos – (sorry but South Beach in San Diego is still my favorite fish tacos)

I spent the rest of my time in Philly, meeting with old friends from college (who managed to keep from getting their photos taken this time) & wandering around the city admiring all the changes since I once lived there.

It was great to see everyone and I hope to be there again in the very near future. This trip has made me miss so many things about Philadelphia & forget why I left in the first place.

Salon Treatment & A Baseball Game { Philadelphia Pt Six }

Saturday, August 9th, 2014

After a yoga session first thing this morning, I got a new hair do thanks to my sister-in-law who set me up with a gift certificate and an appointment with Buddy at Crimson Hair Studio on Sansom. Yay -only wish I had this cut earlier this week!

Then Sean treated me to a Phillies baseball game at the new-to-me ball park!  We had fun like I did eating soft pretzels & cotton candy & watching the game like I did when I was little. As it got later, the game went in to extra innings & we stayed to the bitter end. (But as I write this I honestly can’t remember who won!  😉 Guess it doesn’t matter anyway!

More Please {Philadelphia, Pt Five}

Saturday, August 9th, 2014

When I go to Philly I eat. In fact my trips there mostly consist of planning around museum visits and where to eat. So basically  I try to plan the most efficient way to fill my brain with  inspiration  and my stomach with as much good eats as I can handle without requiring me to purchase a second seat on the plane ride home 😉

Belated Birthday Celebration

Living a thousand miles away means I don’t get to see my little (bearded foodie) brother often enough.  So Adam, Dena (my new sister) and Sean decided to take me to their favorite Italian place, Monsu on Christian St for a little belated birthday celebration. We enjoyed some seriously unique italian food, homemade wine from Dena & Adam’s personal stash & desserts I could have eaten every day for weeks.

I ordered the lasagna – made with fresh pasta sheets, baked with sausage, raisins, cocoa & a  fried egg. Ok so raisin & egg w lasagna may sound strange. But I cannot even begin to describe the deliciousness that my gluten-free self was tasting other than to tell you that you just have to eat it for yourself.  While I loved the lasagna that I ordered the most,  in true italian tradition, we passed our plates around the table for everyone to have a taste- Radicchio with asiago fig & lemon honey, Polpettone, Cozzo Modo Mio (sweet mussels) Gnocchi, Raviolis, etc! Ok  I have to stop I’m getting hungry again!    And though all these plates were so yummy, I of course secretly hoping I to get my own plate returned barely touched 😉  Cannoli & chocolate with a bit of  . . .  mmm

After walking off a bit of that rich italian, we stopped for a little more wine 😉
